چکیده
Measurements of fluctuating wall pressure in a high-Reynolds-number flow over body revolution are described. With strong axial gradient and moderate lateral curvature, this non-equilibrium is relevant to marine applications as well short-haul urban transportation. The wall-pressure spectrum its scaling discussed, along with relation the space–time structure. As decelerates downstream, root-mean-square level drops together shear stress ( $\tau _w$ ) consistently approximately 7 . While associated dimensional spectra see broadband reduction 15 dB per Hz, they appear attain single functional form, collapsing within 2 when normalized wall-wake where scale $U_e/\delta$ frequency scale. Here, $\delta$ boundary layer thickness $U_e$ local free-stream velocity. general success scaling, including viscous $f^{-5}$ region, suggests that large-scale motions outer play predominant role near-wall turbulence pressure. On investigating further, we find instantaneous fluctuations characterized by quasi-periodic feature appears convect downstream at speeds consistent peak stresses. conditional structure feature, estimated through detection time series, resembles roller, supporting embedded hypothesis (Schatzman & Thomas, J. Fluid Mech. , vol. 815, 2017, pp. 592–642; Balantrapu et al. 929, 2021, A9). Therefore, outer-region shear-layer-type may be important devising strategies for control, drag noise decelerating layers.

Iterative Solutions to the Steady-state Axisymmetric Boundary-layer Equations under an Intense Pressure Gradient
Steady-state solutions to the complete axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations are obtained by an iterative technique for an intense pressure-gradient force representative of the tropical cyclone. Solutions for the horizontal and vertical components of motion are compared for various horizontal and vertical mixing coefficients, drag coefficients, and Coriolis parameters. A multilevel model is used...
متن کاملWall Pressure Fluctuations in Naturally Developing Boundary Layer Flows on Axisymmetric Bodies
This paper investigates the characteristics of wall pressure fluctuations in naturally developing boundary layer flows on axisymmetric bodies experimentally. The axisymmetric body has a modified ellipsoidal blunt nose. Flush-mounted microphones are used to measure the wall pressure fluctuations in the boundary layer flow over the body. The measurements are performed in a low noise wind tunnel. ...
متن کاملLES of the adverse-pressure gradient turbulent boundary layer
We describe large-eddy simulations (LES) of the flat-plate turbulent boundary layer in the presence of an adverse pressure gradient. The stretched-vortex subgrid-scale model is used in the domain of the flow coupled to a wall model that explicitly accounts for the presence of a finite pressure gradient. The LES are designed to match recent experiments conducted at the University of Melbourne wi...
متن کاملConstant adverse pressure gradient turbulent boundary layers
Significant progress has been made towards understanding the large scale features of wall-bounded shear flow in zero pressure gradient (ZPG) turbulent boundary layers (TBL). Here we consider their effects in adverse pressure gradient (APG) flows where the pressure gradient parameter is held constant and Reynolds number is varied. This is done by documenting the changes in the mean velocity, str...
متن کاملInfluences of Large-scale Structures on Skin Friction in an Adverse Pressure Gradient Turbulent Boundary Layer
Direct numerical simulation (DNS) of a turbulent boundary layer (TBL) subjected to adverse pressure gradient (APG) at Reτ = 834 is performed to investigate large-scale influences on vortical motions. For comparison, DNS data of a zero pressure gradient (ZPG) TBL at Reτ = 837 is analyzed. The spanwise energy spectra of the streamwise velocity fluctuations show that the large-scale energy above 4...
